The Memphis Design Group started in 1981 in Milan, Italy by Ettore Sottsass.  The Group name was inspired from a Bob Dylan song titled “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again.” The group is comprised of Italian designers and architects who created a series of highly influential products. They disagreed with the conformist
approach and challenged the idea that products had to follow conventional shapes, colours, textures and patterns. The colours they used contrasted the dark blacks and browns of European furniture. Laminate and terrazzo materials were incorporated into tables and lamps, usually found on floors. This is a Mock-up emphasizing a bookshelf with a nook for the reader.
